On 11 August 1959, Sheremetyevo International Airport started its operations and had its first international flight to Berlin on 1 June 1960. The first terminal of SVO, Sheremetyevo-1, was opened in September 1967. The first domestic flight of Tupolev Tu-134 to Stockholm departed on this terminal on 12 September 1967, followed by Ilyushin Il-62's first flight to Montreal on 15 September of the same year. A much larger terminal, Sheremetyevo-2, was opened on 1 January 1980 for international flights. It also served as the one of the official airports for the Moscow Olympics.

The two terminals of Sheremetyevo International Airport are not connected. They are separate buildings that use the same set of runways, and this layout is quite unusual worldwide. The domestic flights in Sheremetyevo-1 are handled by several airlines such as Aeroflot, Aeroflot-Don, Aeroflot-Nord, Belavia, Rossiya, Tatarstan Airlines, Ural Airlines, and Yamal Airlines. Sheremetyevo-2 has many operating airlines such as Adria Airways, Aeroflot, Air China, Air France, Air Malta, Malйv Hungarian Airlines, Iran Air, Turkish Airlines, and a lot more with various destinations from all over the world. A new terminal, Terminal C, costing US$87.7 million has recently opened in SVO, located beside Sheremetyevo-1. This terminal handles short haul international flights, estimated to have a capacity of 5 million passengers per year.

The spacious terminals of Sheremetyevo International Airport offer various facilities to meet the needs of the travellers. Among these facilities are banking facilities, telephones, currency exchange, a post office, bars, restaurants, newspaper stands, a duty-free shopping centre, hotel reservation centre, lost and found counter, medical centre, pharmacy, information counters, and travel agencies. SVO also has a business centre located in Sheremetyevo-2, where fax, telephone, and conference facilities are available. There are nine meeting rooms with photocopy and internet access available for business travellers.

For handling luggage, trolleys can be hired and there are porter services available. Sheremetyevo International Airport does not offer facilities for disabled travellers. However, wheelchairs and special assistance can be arranged prior to travel.

Upon arrival at SVO, travellers can hire cars from car rental agencies located at the Arrival Hall of Sheremetyevo-2, beside the travel agency and information desk. Car rental companies such as Avis, Econocar, Budget, Hertz, National, Mosrentservice, Transit, and Olga provide a wide variety of cars for travellers. Aside from car rentals, there are also public vehicles available for transportation, such as electric trains, taxis, and metro and express buses. Parking facilities at this airport is limited and only parking spaces for shot-term are offered. These parking spaces are located alongside and nearby the entrances and exits of the main terminal.

For accommodations, the Novotel Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and the Sheremetyevo-2 Hotel offers many convenient rooms. They are both located near the Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Transport Canada owns Vancouver International Airport and is administered by Vancouver International Airport Authority, which also administers other airports around the globe through its subsidiary, Vancouver Airport Services.

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh did not want to include Vancouver in his tour across North America due to its lack of suitable airport. After two years, the city bought a land on Sea Island for air travel purposes that has substituted the initial runway at Minoru Park. During the Second World War, the airports and its first terminal, currently South Terminal, was chartered by the Federal government and was managed by the National Defence and Transport department. The airport was the headquarters for RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) training and the crews and their families were accommodated in a new town near the island called Burkevill, after President Stanley Burke of Boeing. Financial supports from the charter were spent to buy extra land for new air docks and a production institute for Boeing Aircraft of Canada.

The current primary terminal was finished in 1968. It has been developed in order to include domestic and international airports. In 1996, the north runway was finished.

Vancouver International Airport has more transpacific flights compared to other Canadian airports. The respectable number of Asian Canadians residing in Vancouver also adds to the huge number of flights.

On the Winter Olympics in 2010, Vancouver is likely to serve more than 20 million passengers every year which will rate Vancouver International Airport among the Top 50 airports globally in terms of passenger traffic.

The airport has four stations: the domestic terminal, which was built in 1968 which lately had a top-to-bottom overhaul; the International Terminal and Transborder, which was built in the 1990's; and the South Terminal, which is a part of the first terminal that is still operational.

As of now, the domestic and international airports are operated by buses N10 and 424 of TransLink. Route N10 connects it to downtown Vancouver, and Route 424 connects it to the Airport Station.

Dusseldorf International Airport is the third biggest airport in Germany. It is found in Dusseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Dusseldorf International Airport

In 2008, Dusseldorf International Airport has accommodated 18.15 million passengers. The Dusseldorf International Airport acts as the most important airport for Air Berlin and LTU, its subsidiary. It is the secondary airport of Lufthansa that provides approximately 300 flights daily to 53 places. Beginning May 2008, Lufthansa has re-established long run operations from Dusseldorf International Airport. The 70 airlines of Dusseldorf International Airport hold flights to 186 destinations. Dusseldorf International Airport has approximately 750 takeoffs and landings everyday.

Dusseldorf International Airport is found approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) from downtown Dusseldorf, Germany. It is the main airport from the Rhine-Ruhr area which is the largest urban region in Germany and one of the largest metropolitan areas all over the world.

Dusseldorf International Airport has a couple of runways which are 3,000 metres and 2,700 metres long. There are ideas of extending the 3,000 metres runway to 3,600 metres., However, the Ratingen City, which rests in the runway's approach path, is hindering them.

There are 107 airplane parking spots in the airport. The present terminal building can handle up to 22 million travellers per year. However, because of an agreement with the people living in Ratingen, this amount of passengers may not even be attained in the years to come. Aircraft movements are still limited but the airport has acquired Airbus A380, the new king-sized aircraft. On 12 November 2006, the original Airbus A380 arrived in Dusseldorf as part of a promotion flight by Lufthansa. Lufthansa is preparing to use Dusseldorf International Airport as an alternative route airport for Airbus A380 just in case a bad weather occurred in Frankfurt.

The owners of the Dusseldorf International Airport are Dusseldorf, which owns half of the airport, and the Airport Partners GmbH, which also owns half of the airport. It is divided among its partners where 40% belongs to Hochtief AirPort GmbH, 40% to Dublin Airport Authority (by Aer Rianta International, its wholly-owned subsidiary), and 20% to Hochtief AirPort Capital KGaA.

The passengers in Dusseldorf International Airport have been increasing yearly. In 2002, Dusseldorf International Airport accommodated 14.75 million passengers; in 2003, it accommodated 14.30 million passengers; in 2004, it accommodated 15.20 million passengers; in 2005, it accommodated 15.51 million passengers; in 2006, it accommodated 16.60 million passengers; in 2007, it accommodated 17.83 million passengers; and in 2008, it accommodated 18.15 million passengers.

Dusseldorf International Airport started its operation on 19 April 1927, two years after it has been constructed. However, the first aircraft that landed in the northern part of Dusseldorf was in 1909, the Zeppelin LZ-III.
